About St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital
Completed in 1991, the 47,000-sqm tower contains 30,000 sqm of medical office space, 9,290 sqm of out-patient hospital and laboratory facilities, 2,040 sqm of retail space, integrated parking facilities for 1,365 cars on 10 levels in the tower, and a 525-foot-long pedestrian bridge from the tower's level two to the hospital across the street.
During the planning phase, Hines led a team of designers and hospital representatives on a nationwide tour of top medical facilities to adapt the best ideas from each. Hines also recommended architects, negotiated contracts, aided in acquisition of the site, oversaw demolition and asbestos abatement, and supervised construction. The space was 95% leased prior to completion and, by finishing the project three months ahead of schedule in January 1991, Hines saved St. Luke’s over $4 million.
The resulting Cesar Pelli-designed tower and its stately twin spires have become a distinctive landmark in the vast Texas Medical Center.
